Q: Take us through your lockdown skincare routine…
A: “Seeing as I have more time, I’m utilising it in my skincare routine and pushing my active ingredients. I want my skin to come out of lockdown looking smooth! I apply all of my skincare products to my face, neck and decolletage, but sometimes I have to lay off my decolletage as it’s a bit sensitive to actives, so I have to be careful of overdoing it.
If I do overdo it, I just stop using actives and apply Care Factor twice daily for a few days to help the skin repair.
Here’s my current routine:
I also use One Night Stand AHA Overnight Facial one to two times per week on my face and neck overnight (I’m working up to using it on my decolletage – stay tuned).
One of my favourite treatments during this lockdown is taking 15 minutes out of my day to apply the Fizzy Lift Instant Glow Mask whenever I feel like it. Usually it’s several nights a week when I have a bath.
What are the best actives and ingredients to use while we wait to return to professional cosmetic treatments for glow and radiance, wrinkles and lastly firming and plumping?
A: “For glow and radiance, the key would be to increase exfoliation using AHAs to improve skin clarity and luminosity. I love Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) so much, we have included this wonder ingredient as part of our Brightening Cocktail featured across the entire Dr Naomi Skin range, for its proven results in minimising pigmentation amongst so many other benefits it provides for all skin types.
We have also added Centella Asiatica (or Tiger Grass) extracts in its most potent form (madecassoside) which works wonders to fade existing pigmentation, even out skin tone and minimise redness overall.
For wrinkles, without any hesitation my answer is Vitamin A. It comes in many forms and strengths (Retinol, Retinoids and Retinoic Acid) and would be the ingredient that has the most research done measuring the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Our Vitamin Amen Ultimate A Serum combines Retinol, Retinoids and a new botanical A alternative Bakuchiol that has been proven to achieve similar results to retinol without some of the potential irritations associated with the use of Vitamin A.
For firming and plumping, the obvious one that everyone should feature in their skincare routine is Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which is proven to deeply hydrate and re-plump skin instantly while providing a long term increase in hydration levels in the skin. Let it Be Hydrating Serum in our range features three different forms of HA to cover the entire molecular weight spectrum of HA, to provide hydration from surface to deeper layers of the skin.We have also featured organic Kangaroo Paw flower extract, this Australian ingredient has some amazing clinical studies behind its efficacy to tighten and firm the skin over time. We have used it in our best selling eye cream Catfish, Plump Fiction and One Night Stand.”
Q: Do you have any advice for those wanting to prolong the effects of Injectables?
A: “Injectables treat the muscles and a deeper plane underneath the skin. Skincare is for treating the surface, which is really important. Most injectables can’t treat the skin surface very well, so skincare is needed for that job.
It’s a shame when people have lots of injectables but leave the skin surface looking damaged or not in peak condition. I don’t understand it. I think they just haven’t been educated about how important skincare is and they don’t understand the value of really beautiful skin yet.
Unfortunately there are no hard or fast rules when it comes to making your injectables last longer. The etched lines that people use some injectables for can really be helped by using active skincare, so focus your skincare application on areas like crows feet, frown lines, smile lines and forehead lines.
Filler works so much better when the skin overlying it is of a higher quality. For example, for patients with under-eye issues, including those who have tear trough filler, it’s really important to use skincare to improve the skin in that area so that filler results can be optimised.”
